Carbon monoxide (CO) is a colorless, odorless, deadly gas. It can be emitted by sources including gas or oil furnaces, gas clothes dryers, water heaters, fireplaces, wood stoves, charcoal grills, gas ranges, and space heaters. A clogged chimney, improper venting, and attached garages can also cause carbon monoxide accumulation. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), at least one CO alarm should be installed near a home's sleeping area. The BRK SC9120 hardwire combination smoke and CO alarm with battery backup includes these features: - Quick plug-in power connector for easy installation.
- 120-volt AC inter-connectable (with maximum 18 compatible devices). The alarm can be interconnected with up to 12 other compatible smoke alarms and six compatible devices like bells, horns, repeaters and door closers. If one unit triggers an alarm, all smoke alarms in the series will sound. Power indicators show which unit in the series initiated the alarm.
- Ionization sensor which is more effective at detecting flaming fires which consume combustible materials rapidly and spread quickly.
- Microprocessor controlled for fewer nuisance alarms.
- Single test/silence button which both silences a non-threatening alarm or low battery warning and allows you to test the unit's functionality.
- Automatically performs internal test of functionality.
- Latching alarm indicator which automatically identifies which unit initiated the alarm.
- Separate smoke and carbon monoxide visual and audible warnings.
- Battery drawer lock and mounting bracket lock for tamper resistance.
- AC power indicator and alarm indicator light.
- Low battery warning "chirp" and missing battery tab.
- 9-volt battery backup for peace of mind during power outages.
All BRK Electronics carbon monoxide alarms are listed to UL Safety Standard 2034 for residential carbon monoxide alarms. Includes 9-volt backup battery. 5-year limited warranty.--Bree NorlanderWhat's in the Box One combination smoke and CO alarm, one 9-volt battery, and user's manual | | | Features: | |

BRK smoke and CO alarmMay 24, 2010 I used this BRK smoke and carbon monoxide alarm to replace a similar BRK smoke only detector. The instructions were clear, all necessary parts came with it, installation took about 3 minuets, and everything works.
Good price!Apr 26, 2010 Good price for a combination smoke/carbon monoxide detector. Easy to install. Should last a long time.

Wrong Item SentMar 06, 2010 I purchased these items, but the seller sent the BRK Carbon Monoxide detector not the combination detector........I contacted the seller, who stated he would send a return UPS label and have UPS pick up the incorrect items.........However to this date I still am waiting for the labels....and he did not have the correct items to send in their place.......However he did immediately credit my acct..........I just wish he would send the return label so i could send these items back.....
False AlarmsFeb 07, 2010 These BRK smoke alarms have issued alarms twice now, which lasted several hours each and resulted in lost work time. Initially, two of these would beep every minute and nothing I tried would stop it, so I had them replaced, and then these seemed to be OK, but almost every night we would hear a 1 second alarm. Then 2 weeks later, the alarms went off steady and nothing we tried would silence or reset them. We even had the gas company come out to check the gas applicances for CO2, since 2 of the units also had the CO2 detectors built in, but everything checked out fine, so I just started unplugging the units until the alarms stopped. A few days later, the remaining 3 alarms that I still had connected started another false alarm and eventually stopped. I don't have time to put up with issues like this, and it can result in not even believing your smoke alarms, when it may be a real fire! I only purchased these because they were plug compatible with the First Alert, but I will have to rewire the plug and purchase a better quality brand.

Install with careDec 09, 2009 I bought 2 of these to replace 3-year old models from the same manufacturer, installed by the builder. After 3 days one began the "low battery" beep, as mentioned by other reviewers here. However the problem was not the unit, but the installation. The house wiring is heavy 14 gauge solid wire, with wire nuts connecting the stranded alarm wires to it. In tucking the wires back into the ceiling, one of the power leads pulled out of the wire nut, leaving the unit operating on battery power alone. It's not made for battery-only operation, so the battery is exhausted in a few days. After carefully reconnecting the wire, the unit functioned as expected.
I should note that the builder had trouble getting all 6 alarms working correctly, with 3 different brands/models installed when we moved into the house in 2005. Since then we've had 50% of them fail, ALWAYS in the dead of night. This seems to be about par for the course, as I've heard numerous accounts from friends and family that mirror my own. In searching for replacements, I've found that there are only 3 brands to choose from, and they seem to come from only 2 different companies. None of them seem to be made to last more than 5 years, and the warranties are essentially worthless.
