I do home repair and remodeling, and when you are working in someones house you cannot just sand drywall and let the dust go everywhere, and even if you cover doorways and stuff the fine drywall dust still gets everywhere. I have used one of these for about 3 years now, and would recomend it to anyone that is doing drywall repair or small jobs. There are seveal models out there in the $20 to $50 price range and none of them are an imporvement on this unit for the price. Just remember to buy the dust collecting filter bags for your shopvac, the reg shop vac filters will not catch all the dust becasue it is too fine.

I had moderate expectations because these sorts of things never seem to quite work right. I was pleasantly surprised that it did just what it was made to do. The only downside I found was that the vacuum caused the sander to stick to the wall a little so there was a little extra resistance to the sanding motion. I didn't sand as fast as I often do because of this and because we were living in the room while working on the wall. I wanted to keep the dust down as much as possible so I figured if I worked a little slower, the vacuum would be able to keep up better. I was right; working at 3/4 speed kept the dust level down to almost nothing. I also bought a fine filter (not HEPA) for the shop vac to make sure the dust didn't just go out the exhaust.

I'm an amateur home repair guy and this product has not only saved a partnership with a compulsive cleaner but has made my life easier with a nominal amount of after clean up work needed.

It's nice to find a product that actually does what it says it will do. Works like a charm. The only downside is cleaning the Shop vac filter over and over. If I had it to do over however, I would get the pole mounted version.

I ordered the Hyde sander due to it's made in Canada and it had great reviews. The Ace hardware that was supposed to send the sander sent an inferior "made in China" el cheapo sander. I just used what was sent to get the job done but was not happy with the ol' switcheroo. This is the first time any thing I've ordered on Amazon was not what it was supposed to be. I blame the idiot at Ace Hardware who packed the item.
