5Rutland Silicone Sealant (76b)Dec 24, 2012
By Gordon Cameron "Gordy Cameron"
I bought this sealant for the large metal back panel for our wood stove that goes up against the stone front of our fireplace. It had a gap as much as 3/4" to 1/4" all the way up, across and down a total space of at least 10 feet and it took 3 tubes of sealant to fill the gap so it would stop the draft and the fire would burn hot and clean. With this gap open the fireplace did not have enough draft to get the smoke up the chimney and out of the stove. This is the best sealant because it sets to a very flexible endless rope, it forms an air tight seal that expands and contracts with the heat and cool. The sealant is black and blends in with the black steel fireplace back and it works great, use rubber gloves and be very careful because it could cause a major cleanup job which you don't need. It is a little expensive but it is worth every penny because of the wonderful job it does, if you have a air gap to seal than this is the sealant for the job at high temperatures.

I used this on my offset smoker firebox to seal the ash cleanout door. So far, it has withstood the high temperatures along the side of the firebox.

5A Unique SealantDec 09, 2012
By Reviewer
Unique combination of flexible high temperature rating and neutral-cure (no acetic acid) used to seal travertine tiles and lintel to heat circulating fireplace. Numerous high temperature sealants were found, but this one was the only one found that was flexible with no acid relase during curing. Acid release could have damaged the travertine (a form of limestone) tiles.

I used this around a very hot chimney pipe as an outdoor sealer. It has held up perfectly and has maintained a perfect seal.
