What a wonderful way to start the day. When I am making the necessary first cup of coffee in the morning and look out the kitchen window I usually burst out laughing. The squirrels are doing everything in their power to be the one to sit on the chair and get to the corn cob. Of course this becomes WWIII. Then the birds, who are sitting on the ground underneath the chair are trying to push each other aside to get the corn kernels that drop down. It is one of the very best investments I have ever made. Pure joy and happiness to see nature at its funniest. P.S.: they also have suet, seeds, fruit and water, so their are not starving - just enjoying themselves.

This is an excellent product and works better and is safer for the squirrels than the wire model I was previously using. I just wish the screw to screw into the corn was thicker.

3Works well after you fix all the problems.Jan 18, 2015

Pro: low cost, the squirrels took to it right away.
Cons: The wood is very soft, use washers to attach or the head of the screw goes all the way through the wood.
The wood starts to weather immediately, use a spray on wood treatment to keep the nice wood color.
The screw for the corn cob is not set/locked into place well. Second time I tried to add a corn cob the screw started turning within the wood and made it impossible to attach a cob. Disassembled it and got a lag type screw with a hexagon head and used epoxy to secure it to the base to keep it from turning when you attach a corn cob. So far its working ok.
Had to add another deck screw to the base to keep it from sagging.

You could make this yourself with a few dollars of wood and screws and make it work correctly from the start.

4Nicely made.Oct 16, 2013

The quality of construction is quite good. The only reason I rated it as a 4, is that I would have liked a HEAVY protective coating applied. Areas that have lots of moisture in the air will destroy any kind of wood in a short period of time without a heavy coating and usually the necessity of reapplying one periodically. Therefore I applied my own before submitting it to the elements. Otherwise, I am very satisfied with the chair.

Platform that holds corn started to sag after only two weeks. Had to put two more screws in to reinforce it. Loved that it was made in America.
