 Very well designed, one problemJul 22, 2010
This flashlight only has one major flaw that I can figure: it's waterproof. This is a nice feature in most cases, but it also means that condensation is trapped inside. This will only be an issue in humid climates, especially when the flashlight is exposed to changes in temperature. This problem could be solved by periodically checking for condensation, replacing the batteries in a cool dry environment, or packing a non-corrosive desiccant (like the ones that come with computer parts) into the body somehow.
The flashlight is very affordable and generally very well designed. The bright yellow makes it easy to spot. The shape fits nicely into the hand held up near the head, or down near the waist, but the button is on the back, making it a little inconvenient to push if you hold the flashlight with your thumb oriented forward. Like most flashlights the button can be half depressed to turn the flashlight on intermittently. The body of the flashlight doesn't have any rubber on it, so it can be easily slipped into and out of pockets.
The beam is wide and not adjustable (the reflector is fixed, unlike Mag-lites for instance), which means the flashlight illuminates a wide area, but has limited effective range (15 meters or so maybe). The beam distribution is very even, much better than any incandescent I have used. The single LED version of this flashlight (Streamlight 68244 4AA Propolymer Luxeon Flashlight with White LEDs, Yellow) has a brighter more focused beam, and is better suited to tasks that require a spotlight.
The battery life is spectacular compared to non-LED flashlights. This flashlight would be ideal for everyday use, where changing batteries every couple hours would be tedious. I haven't abused the flashlight severely enough to say much about it's durability, but being LED it can survive drops without burning out. If I had to guess where the flashlight would fail it would be corrosion caused by condensation as mentioned above, or the rubber switch on the back.

The Streamlight 4-AA 7-LED Yellow Flashlight is the best bang for our buck by far. We own a tour company and one tour require a great flashlight to hand out to patrons, yet not too expensive so that if it is "Liberated" it won't break the bank! This flashlight delivers a long-lasting wide beam of bright strong light on 4 AA batteries.
We have tested a lot of flashlights over the past 9 years, and this is the one. As an added bonus, this flashlight is safe to use in extreme conditions, just check out the product details.
We first 'discovered' the Streamlight 4-AA 7-LED Flashlight when searching for an "Emergency" flashlight for personal use, and have equipped our home with several. They used to be more expensive, and we thought they were too pricey for our tours. It ended up they are more dependable, have fewer failures, they use the batteries a lot better, and customers are NOT walking off with them, like they did with smaller LED and regular flashlights! Amazing!

The LEDs don't last long. Bought a second one because I liked it when it worked, same thing. LEDs flicker then die completely, one at a time.

I've had one of these for a little over 2 years, and 3 of the seven bulbs have either completely burned out or flicker. Two other ones of the same age have gotten less use, and are still fine. The feel of the flashlight is great, solid, sturdy, not too heavy. Even with the LED problem, I will may buy another one to replace it -- because this is probably the best general use flood flashlight available at a reasonable price. Most other flashlights are long throw, or spot lights. Unless you are a police officer that's probably not what you want. This flashlight has a superbly uniform (helped by having 7 bulbs rather than just 1 super bright Cree bulb for example) and broad light. It is perfect for illuminating your car's trunk, a dark closet, or to check your child's braces. Another great thing is the color -- bright yellow. Almost all other good quality flashlights are black, fine again for police officers but absolutely not what you want for an emergency light, or a light to carry in your car. The *very* gentle dimishining of the light (lasts over 150 hours at at fairly dim level) means that it will not suddenly fail on you.

Streamlight flashlhights are bright and well constructed. This light adds the benefit of long battery life and waterproof. It is cheap - at the low end of Streamlight's product line, but still good.
